The Ministry of Health and Medical Service’s (MHMS)major goal is to provide accessible, efficient and effective health services to the people of Kiribati through the Primary Health Care approach in both prevention and curative health. The Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) is a general guideline to health workers to set operational standards clear to achieve better accessibility, efficient and effective health services to the people of Kiribati. The revised SOP has been adopted from the 2002 edition. There are changes to adjust the operations with new establishment of services to strengthen the already existing SOP. This SOP will be used throughout Kiribati and more importantly at the 3 referral hospitals (Xmas hospital, Southern Kiribati hospital and Tungaru Central hospital). It should serve as a Hospital Guideline to facilitate and assist in achieving the MHMS’s ultimate goal within minimal and timely resources.
